From the Lab Bench

How a dad-sized experiment became Mad Dad Labz

We are a micro lab obsessed with engineering tactile play that fuels curiosity without wrecking your floors.

Mad Dad Labz started in our garage, where a materials scientist dad tracked every prototype in spreadsheets after bedtime. The goal: sensory sand that felt incredible, rinsed clean, and didn’t leave a greasy film on tiny hands.

Today that weekend hobby is a lab-grade process. We pressure-test every batch for texture, cohesion, and cleanup time, publish our ingredient decks, and only launch what survives parent-level scrutiny.

Our Mission

Less mess. More wonder.

We engineered a biodegradable binder that keeps grains hugging themselves so cleanup is one wipe, never a full sweep.

Lab Standard

27 stress-tests per batch

Texture, cohesion, drop impact, and cleanup speed all get logged before we approve a single bag.

Ingredient Cred

Radically transparent

Food-safe pigments, non-toxic binders, and open ingredient decks so parents always know what’s in the bag.

  • 2021

Garage lab opens. Nightly tests log grain spread, residue, and kid reactions in a Google Sheet.

  • 2022

Binder breakthrough. Batch 127 nails the 'crackle without crumble' texture we ship today.

  • 2024

Transparency pledge launches. We publish our ingredient library and lab notes for every formulation.
